Season 2 | Episode 11 Enlil pits two human brothers against each other to undermine Adamu’s lineage and power over the humans.
Transcript
These humans are really the best pets one could ever have… but those Adamus… It is a source of constant bewilderment to me, the enigma of Adamu and Titi’s extended lifespans. These two… and their direct descendancy, defy all reason and genetic logic. I, Enlil, the Lord of Heavens, have devised a failsafe coding within the human genome, ensuring that no mortal should live beyond sixty healthy years. Yet, here they stand, Adamu at the ripe age of 260 and Titi well on her way to matching his longevity.
My suspicions run deep, and my mind races with the possible explanations for this anomaly. Could it be some form of genetic mutation? A hidden code embedded within their DNA that resists my design? Or perhaps, there exists some clandestine interference by those meddlesome beings, Enki and his ilk.
Their offspring, the result of this genetic defiance, inevitably rise to prominence among the human labor force. They lead in various aspects of human civilization, a fact that gnaws at my rigid sensibilities. It is as if destiny itself conspires against my meticulously calculated plans. But I, the King of Men, will not yield to such enigmas. I will unravel this mystery, trace it to its source, and ensure that my control over humanity remains absolute. The threads of suspicion run deep, and I shall follow them wherever they lead, regardless of the consequences. However, I must admit that having Enki convinced that we are re-connecting is very useful. My attempts to impose a finite lifespan on humans, a fail-safe to prevent their overgrowth, enlightening and rebellion, have been thwarted by this single bloodline. But Why?
Anyway… While I have strived to maintain control through fear and manipulation, this genetic anomaly challenges the very foundation of my planned dominance. I cannot afford to underestimate the potential of these long-lived humans. They are a wild card in the game of power and control that I have meticulously orchestrated.
In my unwavering pursuit of control and dominance over these anomalies, I have often found it necessary to employ cunning tactics to maintain the balance of power. Recently, I devised a plan to pit two brothers against each other, both sons of Adamu, the long-lived anomaly. Kain, the farmer, and Habel, the shepherd, were chosen as the unwitting pawns in my scheme.
I set forth a demand for tribute from these brothers, a gesture of loyalty and submission, to determine who would receive my favor and support. The tension between the siblings grew palpable as they engaged in a silent competition to outshine one another with the grandeur of their offerings. The very air in the council chamber crackled with their unspoken rivalry, their every move scrutinized by my discerning eye.
When the time came for them to present their tributes before my council, I observed their demeanor closely. Kain’s tribute was substantial, a testament to his industrious nature, but he seemed to lack a certain compassion, a key quality that I valued immediately. Habel, on the other hand, presented a more modest offering of those awful and smelly lambs… but he displayed a genuine sense of empathy and care for his fellow humans… he had to be controlled.
It was at this juncture that I made my calculated decision. In a deliberate tone, I declared that Habel had secured my favor and unyielding support, a proclamation that left Kain seething with a venomous blend of fury and resentment… it was a delicious moment, to be honest. The discord I sowed between these two brothers, bound by blood but torn apart by ambition, was a masterstroke in the intricate game of power. As they departed from the council chamber, the rift between them deepened, and I knew that my plan had succeeded. Such is the ruthlessness of Enlil, Lord of Justice.
The aftermath of my calculated decision played out like a carefully crafted symphony of discord. Kain, the farmer with a heart hardened by ambition, departed the council chamber with a clenched jaw and burning resentment etched into his features. He had expected to bask in the glory of my favor, and my rejection had ignited a simmering anger within him. Habel, on the other hand, received my blessing with an air of humility and gratitude. His heart swelled with a newfound sense of purpose and loyalty to my cause. He recognized the value of compassion and empathy in the eyes of his stern benefactor, and he vowed to honor this newfound alliance by advancing my interests among the burgeoning human populace. I had the naïf controlled and the venomous enraged.
As the days turned into weeks, the chasm between the two brothers deepened. Kain’s bitterness festered, poisoning his relationship with Habel. He accused his brother of treachery, claiming that Habel had schemed behind his back to steal my favor. Habel, in turn, attempted to reason with Kain, emphasizing the importance of unity in our quest for control over the humans.
But my words had sowed a division that proved insurmountable. Kain’s unrelenting rage led him down a dark path, one that would ultimately challenge my authority and the fragile equilibrium I had carefully constructed. He began to gather like-minded individuals, forming a faction of dissent that posed a growing threat to the order… soon he will blow up on his own face!
