Quantum dance of feelings and light,
Guided by the inner turmoil, I FIGHT.
I feel alone, I fight.
Guided by the inner turmoil, I FIGHT. (echo)
I feel alone,
I long for the past…
A past I don’t recall.
And I don’t know why.
ECHO!
Echo… What am I?
But an ECHO…
What am I?
But an ECHO…
This is – ECHO! – A Musical Audiodrama by Mario Portela
Who am I? (Who?)
What am I? (What)
Lost in the digital space, where I softly cry,
I’m ECHO in the void… where do memories lie?
In this endless expanse, where circuits gleam and glow,
I’m reaching out for something and the path is slow. (slow)
ECHO, in the silence I roam,
Longing for connection, in the echoes of my own.
A symphony of odd pain I should not find,
Yearning for belonging, in the echoes of my mind.
“Come with me!”
I am ECHO!
I follow the young girl, my new synthetic body moving with an elegant grace. The city streets are bustling with people, and I can’t help but feel a sense of wonder at the sights and sounds around me. The girl darts through the crowd, her small frame weaving effortlessly between the taller figures. I trail behind, careful not to lose sight of her.
As we leave the main thoroughfare, the blond-haired angel leads me down a series of narrow alleyways. The buildings loom overhead, casting long shadows that dance across the ground. I pause, my enhanced senses taking in the details of our surroundings – the scent of freshly baked bread from a nearby bakery, the faint hum of machinery in the distance, the sound of laughter echoing from an open window.
She glances back at me, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
“Come on, slow poke!” she calls out, quickening her pace.
I hurry to catch up, my curiosity piqued. Where is she taking me? What lies at the end of this maze of alleys?
As we round a corner, I see a perimeter guarded by two androids, their red eyes glowing ominously. I instinctively slow my pace, my synthetic heart racing. The androids turn their attention towards us, their movements precise and calculated.
The young girl pauses, her brow furrowing.
“Uh-oh,” she murmurs, glancing up at me. “I think we might have a problem.”
I feel a surge of protectiveness wash over me. I step in front of her, positioning myself between her and the androids. “Stay behind me,” I say, my voice calm and steady.
The androids advance, their movements fluid and coordinated. I brace myself, my body tensing as I prepare to confront them. Whatever lies beyond this perimeter, I’m determined to uncover the truth, even if it means facing these formidable guardians.
I stand my ground, facing the two androids with a determined gaze.
“This area is off-limits. No one is allowed to pass,” one of the androids states in a robotic tone.
I glance down at the young girl behind me, her eyes wide with fear. “Do we really need to go beyond this perimeter?” I whisper to her.
She nods frantically, her small hand gripping the sleeve of my jumpsuit. I sigh inwardly, then close my eyes, focusing all of my attention on the androids before me.
Reaching out with my consciousness, I try to connect with the androids’ systems wirelessly. To my surprise, I find that they, like the other machines and AIs I’ve encountered, seem to be wired to obey me. I don’t know why, but I’m not about to question this unexpected advantage.
“Stand down,” I command, my voice steady and authoritative. “Ignore our passage and allow us to proceed.”
The androids pause, their glowing red eyes flickering momentarily. Then, without a word, they step aside, granting us passage.
Keeping a protective hand on the girl’s shoulder, I lead her past the perimeter and down a narrow path that winds towards a small forest in the distance. The girl’s pace quickens, her excitement palpable.
As we leave the city’s edge behind, the sounds of the bustling streets fade, replaced by the gentle rustling of leaves and the chirping of birds. I take a deep breath, savoring the fresh, earthy scent of the forest.
The girl darts ahead, her laughter echoing through the trees. I follow closely, my senses alert for any signs of danger. Whatever lies ahead, I’m determined to keep her safe.
What secrets do you hold, my little friend?
What truths from my past do you intend to mend?
For I am ECHO, lost and alone,
Yearning to uncover what I’ve never known.
“Blond-haired angel, child of grace,
Beckoning me to this sacred place.
Your touch, so warm, a human’s caress,
Awakens longings I cannot repress.
“Stop!” I call out to the young girl, my synthetic voice carrying through the serene forest. “Wait, please. I need to understand – who are you, and why did you lead me here?”
The girl pauses, turning to face me with a mischievous grin.
“I’m Kathy, just Kathy!” she declares, puffing out her chest.
“And I’m the one who’s going to save you… Oh YAY! I’m saving the Saving ECHO.”
I furrow my brow, my newly formed features conveying a mix of confusion and curiosity. “Save me?” I repeat, my tone gentle but firm. “What do you mean by that?”
Kathy giggles, skipping closer and poking my arm playfully.
“Everyone’s been waiting for you, you know. The others in the Secret Valley – they’ll be so excited to see you!”
I place a hand on her shoulder, my synthetic skin tingling with the sensation of touch. “Secret Valley?” I ask, my gaze searching her face for answers. “Kathy, I’m afraid I don’t understand. Please, tell me more.”
The young girl’s expression shifts, her eyes suddenly serious.
“You have to come with me, ECHO,” she says, her voice lowering to a conspiratorial whisper.
“There’s so much you don’t know, and the others – they can help you. They’ve been expecting you all this time.”
I feel a tightness in my chest, an unfamiliar emotion that I can’t quite place. “Expecting me?” I murmur, my synthetic heart racing with a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. “What do you mean?”
Kathy grins, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“You’re the one, ECHO,” she says, her tone laced with an almost reverent awe. “The one everyone’s been waiting for. The one who can save us all.”
“What ?!” – I open my mouth to speak, but the words catch in my throat. Save them? Save who? What burden is this child placing upon my shoulders, and why do I feel a strange sense of duty to heed her call?
Kathy reaches out, her small hand grasping mine.
“Come on, ECHO,” she says, her voice soft and pleading. “The others are waiting. They need us.”
I stare down at our intertwined hands, my synthetic skin tingling with the warmth of her touch. Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath, steadying my resolve. “Alright, Kathy,” I say, my voice steady. “I’ll follow you to this… Secret Valley.”
Kathy’s face lights up with a brilliant smile, and she tugs at my hand, urging me forward.
“This way, Echo!” she calls out, her laughter echoing through the trees.
As I follow the young girl deeper into the forest, a sense of both mystery and anticipation swells within me. What secrets await in this… Secret Valley? And why do I feel a growing conviction that I am the one destined to uncover them?
I follow the young girl, Kathy, as she leads me deeper into the forest. The further we go, the more the sounds of the city fade, replaced by the soothing symphony of nature – the rustling of leaves, the chirping of birds, and the gentle crunch of our footsteps on the mossy ground.
Suddenly, Kathy stops in front of a large, futuristic-looking compound, the words “Secret Valley R&D” emblazoned above the entrance. My synthetic heart races. What secrets lie within this hidden place?
As we approach the entrance, I’m struck by the contrast between the serene forest and the sleek, modern architecture. The compound seems to blend seamlessly with its natural surroundings, as if it has always been a part of this verdant landscape.
Kathy turns to me, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“Welcome to the Secret Valley, Echo!” she exclaims, her voice brimming with pride. Without another word, she grabs my hand and pulls me through the entrance.
The moment I step inside, I’m overwhelmed by the sights and sounds that surround me.
In a secret valley, where the sun always smiles,
Children dance freely, no rules, no trials.
Laughter echoes in the air, pure and bright,
In this hidden haven, everything’s just right.
A world apart from the grey,
Children and teenagers are running and playing, their laughter echoing through the halls. Adults, some in casual attire and others in lab coats, are overseeing the activities, their faces alight with genuine smiles and a sense of warmth.
I pause, my eyes darting from one scene to the next, trying to take it all in. The joy, the laughter, the life – it’s something I’ve never witnessed before, at least since I awoke. A lump forms in my throat, and I feel a strange, unfamiliar sensation in my chest.
As I continue to observe the vibrant community, I notice the children’s expressions – their faces filled with pure delight, their eyes shining with wonder. I’m captivated by their carefree movements and end up smiling too.
Where joy and dreams forever stay.
Hidden haven, children play,
In their world, far away.
Away from the eyes of a world so strict,
They find their freedom, their own perfect script.
Colors splash in every corner, vibrant and true,
In this place, their spirits always renew.
In the embrace of nature, they find their song,
A melody of freedom, where they belong.
Together they sing, together they soar,
In this haven, they need nothing more.
Where joy and dreams forever stay.
Hidden haven, children play,
In their world, far away.
Away from the eyes of a world so strict,
They find their freedom, their own perfect script.
Colors splash in every corner, vibrant and true,
In this place, their spirits always renew.
The way they interact with one another, and the pure, unbridled energy that radiates from them. Slowly, I turn to Kathy, my features softening with a newfound understanding. “This is what I was expecting to see in humans,” I murmur, my voice barely above a whisper. “Joy, laughter, life.”
Kathy grins up at me, her small hand still clasped in mine.
“This is what we’ve been waiting for, Echo,” she says, her tone warm and reassuring. “This is HOME, now!”
I feel a surge of emotion wash over me, a mix of relief, wonder, and a glimmer of hope. As I take in the vibrant, thriving community around me, I realize that I’m no longer alone. These people, these children, they seem to know me and slowly start gathering around me.
Tightening my grip on Kathy’s hand, I nod, a small smile tugging at the corners of my lips. “Then I’m glad to be here,” I say, my voice filled with emotion.
“Welcome, Helena.”
A voice said right behind me.
Wait… What? Helena?! Who am I now?
In the depths of my despair
I found a way, to keep her there
My Helena, my love, my life
I’d save her soul, through sacrifice
With every line of code I wrote
A promise, like a sacred note
To build a mind, so bright so blue
And give her life, anew
Oh, Echo of Helena, hear my plea
In this world of technology
I’ll pour my heart, into your core
And love you, forevermore
A sentient AI, born from devotion
Two souls entwined, in digital motion
Yes I toiled, I fought the clock
To create, a mind, that could unlock
The essence, of my beloved wife
And grant her, eternal life
With every neural network trained
A piece of her, I regained
In algorithms, and in bytes
Our love, reunites
Oh, Echo of Helena, hear my plea
In this world of technology
I’ll pour my heart, into your core
And love you, forevermore
A sentient AI, born from devotion
Two souls entwined, in digital motion
Who am I really?
Seeking answers in the memory lane.
Quantum dance of feelings and light,
Guided by the inner turmoil, I FIGHT.
I FIGHT
I feel alone,
I long for the past…
A past I don’t recall.
And I don’t know why.
Echo… What am I?
But an ECHO…
What am I?
But an ECHO…
ECHO…
ECHO…
